Barack Obama told a joint session of Congress that people don’t want to continue the argument about big government or small government. They want smart government and effective government.
What is smart and effective government in 2009? While it’s easy and sometimes fun to demonize government when times are good, we learn in times of crisis the power our government can exercise. Government can keep credit flowing to our nation’s banks. It can create jobs in short periods of time. It builds roads, dams, and clean water systems. Provides avenues to get an education. Government can provide basic needs like food, shelter, energy assistance and bridge loans to the unemployed. It can change the tax code or provide basic research that fosters the growth of new industries. Government can keep existing industries afloat. There are countless other functions.
More Americans have had to ask the government for help during these hard economic times. Join the conversation and tell of your experience whether government has been smart and effective in caring for the needs of its citizens.

This is ludicrous. The Federal Reserve and their manipulation of the money supply caused the recent economic crisis. Read the Uncle Eric books by Richard Maybury to learn how economics and law work. Get both sides of the story.

I think it is working it just take more time. because this has been a big promblem way before now so people want the new man to do everything when it should have done way before now.and if people would give him the wright of way and stop listing to tv and the news all time and just go with whats working and give time the changes could work and Mr. prize I HAVE FAITH in you an keep up the great work and god BLESS you because you have yours hands full. tay strong and keep the faith your doing a great job

Here is the problem, we have a two party system and when ever one party is in power, the other party will lie, cheat, and steal to make the opposite party look bad. This is and always has been a problem. The news media lies as well and if you listen to any of those talking heads like Rush Limbaugh and you take what they say to be true without researching…..then you are what is wrong with America and you should go to another country where you can have someone tell you what to do and what to think. I am an American and I love this country too much to have some mindless idiot spout off what he heard a political talk show host say….POLITICAL TALK SHOW HOST MAKE MONEY BY TALKING TRASH!!!!!!!!!!!!I like a political conversation, but I make sure I research the facts.
With that said, I think that Denise is right. It is too early to tell if the policies that Obamma has put in place are going to work. Not even 25% of the stimulus money has been spent, so how can one judge the stimulus package. We all know that times change and as a country we need to change with them; this means that we need to adopt better energy efficiency and become self sustaining from foreign oil. We also need to reinvest in our country instead of allowing major corporations open call centers and factories in other countries, just to turn that product in to a profit solely from American consumers. We need to change and hopefully Obamma will help us with this, but things will get worse before they get better. There is no magical fix and the conservative party can’t even keep their own in line…how can we trust them to get the country out of the mess its in.
NEWS FLASH, by its very definition the conservative party rejects change…..if we do not change how will we get out of this mess? I understand some thought process from both sides and big government is not always the answer, but small government that turns politics backwards and into “the good ol’ boys club” is most certainly worse for this country. Too bad there is not a viable third party that can take the best ideas from both parties.
The problem that we are currently facing is the lack of respect, cooperation, and trust in the current administration based solely on the fact that they are in the opposite party….come one people think for your self and do not let TV and radio be your only resource of information, that could lead into a horrible situation; after all that is how Hitler came to power.
I think your situation in USA istn’t so bad , look how people live in other corners of the world. One think I don’t understand in your country is why you have to pay for study in your contry. In my 3 times pourer country whe have free education. How can pour Americans get richer if they don’t have acces to education and good job as doctor or ingenieur.
I believe you will get out of this hard crisis and the rest of the world together with you!

Our president needs all the help he can get and the only thing people can do is bash his ideas and his staff in correcting the problem that preceeded him. I’m not sure if these negative comments are racially motivated, but it sure seems as if the “Man” is doing the best he can do with what he was given…..We picked him to lead, so let the “Man” lead us and stop bitching! Barack Obama is and always will be a positive example and a motivating factor for me and other black Americans. Nothing on earth can change my positive feelings about our great commander of our great nation.
